Today's flowers

My Today's flowers entry for this week is my orchid called, Zygopetalum. It is in season at this time of the year. It has been quite awhile since I have this orchid which I bought from a fund raising in our place, and every year it never miss to treat me with their lovely flowers. And aside from its lovely flowers, it has beautiful fragrance, and the flowers are long lasting too.To see more Today's Flowers entries please visit here.

Hubby's homemade pizza

Last weekend, hubby volunteered to prepare our dinner and decided to make homemade pizza. We bought a pack of Pita wholemeal bread for a base and use anything that took our fancy which were also available in the kitchen at that time as toppings. Since the kids have their own tastes when it comes to pizza, hubby prepared first their pizzas. Its got their favourite ingredient which is the pineapple, sliced Polish sausage, sliced bacon, drizzling of tomato sauce and topped with grated cheese.
Then hubby and mine have everything that we could manage to throw in as toppings. Its got Polish sausage, sliced bacon, mushrooms, olives, tomato sauce and topped with grated cheese.

Kiting

We went out kiting at Cor Bouwer Reserve nearby. We used my little boy's blue Owl kite. We bought it about 3 years ago and it is still in good shape and condition. It was a glorious day but unfortunately at that time there was not enough wind to fly the kite. We patiently waited and waited but it seemed Mother Nature wasn't on our side. Since my little boy cannot manage to fly the kite all by himself with not enough wind, my daughter took charge of flying it and had to do all her effort to run around the ground from time to time just to get the kite up flying. It was great fun for them even though it was a bit exhausting.

Ruby Tuesday

This was taken during our visit to Featherdale Wildlife Park about 15 minutes from where we live. These birds are called Crimson Rosella. They are parrots native to Eastern and South Eastern Australia which has been introduced to New Zealand and Norfolk Island . It is commonly found in, but not restricted to, mountain forests and gardens (Wiki).

Camera Critters

Meet our neighbor's two bunny rabbits. They are Rossie and Fluffy. They sometimes hop out to the front yard to have a feast of grass. The kids really get excited for they can get a chance to pat them.Rossie is a bit shy but glad she allowed me to take a picture of her for sometimes she just hops away from the kids when they get too close to her.
This is Fluffy, very friendly and sweet and she likes the kids to pat on her.

Cupcakes

Since we didn't go out today because me and hubby were doing some work in the house, I let the kids do something to occupy themselves even just only for a short time. I had decided to make chocolate cupcake and involved the kids in the preparation. It's great fun for them. Good thing that I still had a box of chocolate cupcake mix left in the pantry when I checked it out. I did the mixing of all the ingredients and let them do the next step . David was really doing good even with constant supervision of Dorothy. They were busy filling the cupcake patties.
I did the preparation of the frosting and let them gently covered all the cooled cupcakes . The frosting comes together with the box and all I need was to add butter and milk accordingly.

Watery Wednesday

I'm glad, I'm able to join in this week's Water Wednesday for it is not that often that I can get a chance. My entry for this week is the Morshead Fountain at Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney. This was taken during our visit to the place last Thursday.

Smoked fish

Yesterday, when we went out shopping I dropped by in one of the Filipino shops to get a few things and noticed that one of their freezers is newly stock up with varieties of frozen smoked fish such as, smoked bangus, hearing and galunggong. The thought of it dipped with spicy vinegar made my mouth drool, and, without a second thought I grabbed one packet. I sometimes buy it but not that often, because, every time I see smoked fish in the fridge I cant resist it and want it every meal time. A plate of rice is not enough once I have smoked fish in front of me, this is the main thing that I try to avoid. My favourite is smoked "galonggong". This is frozen and needs only thawing. I usually fry it in a shallow oil just to warm it before eating rather than warming in the microwave.

Today's flowers

We visited Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney last Thursday. That was our second visit since 2006. We spent few hours there exploring the area. It is a vast place and we were not able to explore the entire area. One of the featured gardens there that we visited was the herb garden where I saw these beautiful flowers. These are called African Marigold. I used to have these flowers in my front garden few years ago.

Not feeling well

I had been sick with the virus that has been going on around here. I had runny/stuffy nose, sore throat, sneezing and a bit of a headache, cold like symptoms so to speak. I am glad the kids are not that sick only occasional coughs and sneezes.
With all that, I wasn't able to stay much longer in the computer. My runny nose was annoying and my eyes were a bit watery. For 2 nights, I hadn't had that much sleep and felt tired through the day.
I relied only on natural remedies, by drinking chamomile tea with fresh lemon juice and honey and increased my liquids intake as well. I don't normally seek medical medications at times like this when I have cold like symptoms. Thankfully, I am feeling a lot better now.

Camera Critters- Leaf or Stick Insects

Here are my Camera Critters, they are called Phasmids (Leaf or Stick Insects: Order Phasmatodea) that eat leaves and resemble leaves or sticks. They are usually green or brown but many reveal brightly coloured underwings when they fly. They have developed many unusual shapes to camouflage themselves to avoid detection by predators. The order Phasmatodea includes the longest insects in the world.
Pictures were taken during our visit to Sydney Wildlife World in Darling Harbour sometimes last October of last year.

Last Monday

We decided to take a walk last Monday to a nearby park. The park is in Prospect Reservoir, a dam located in Prospect Creek, approximately 35 kilometers west of Sydney and about 15 minutes drive from where we live. The kids were so excited as they can again do their favourite recreation , riding the scooter for David and roller skating for Dorothy. These are the things they always want to do every time we go out to a park. That's why we always consider a suitable and a safe place where they can do all those things. This park is perfect for these activities for it has a long cemented bike path going towards the other side of the town with lowest traffic of bikers . The park is opened everyday of the year with BBQ facilities, children's playgrounds and toilets and viewing area.Below is a portion of the dam shimmering in the sunlight. This dam was completed on 1888 and was the first earth fill embankment dam in Australia
