Turon

We have turon for snack today. This is one of our favourites snacks. I bought a frozen pack from the Filipino shop here yesterday. I really want to try to cook home made turon if I can get a chance.
"Turon (Spanish: turrĂ³n),also known as Banana Lumpia, is a Philippine snack made of thinly sliced bananas (preferably Saba or Cardaba bananas) and a slice of jackfruit, dusted with brown sugar, rolled in spring roll wrapper and fried. Other fillings can also be used, including sweet potato, mango, cheddar cheese and coconut.
Turon is a popular street food among Filipinos. They can be usually seen on the streets along with banana cue, camote cue, and maruya being peddled by vendors." (wikipedia)

Blueberry Muffins

I bought blueberry muffins from Woolies this afternoon when I was doing our weekly grocery shopping. The pack (4 pieces) was half the original price so I thought to grab a pack for hubby when he comes home for he loves muffin with a cup of coffee. He is doing overtime work today and also tomorrow. The kids are not a big fan of blueberry muffin and so am I.

Sometime last week

Since I didn't have anything to do after my lunch and started to feel a little bored, I thought to make banana bread again. I found a recipe which is so easy to make from the internet which I have been enjoying for a while now. I had enough ripe bananas to make for 2 banana bread and while checking the rest of the ingredients, I was glad that I had enough to be used for the recipe.Hubby always love it with a cup of coffee after work and kids love to have slices for their snack in the afternoon. Here are my fabulous banana bread. Please click here for the recipe.

Caramel Cake

Last Friday we were surprised by a friend for she gave us a caramel cake even if there was no special occasion. It was baked by a famous Filipino bakery in our area. We haven't had caramel cake in a long time so we indulged ourselves with it after dinner. Thank you so much my friend for being so sweet and thoughtful to us.

Hubby's homemade pizza

Last weekend, hubby volunteered to prepare our dinner and decided to make homemade pizza. We bought a pack of Pita wholemeal bread for a base and use anything that took our fancy which were also available in the kitchen at that time as toppings. Since the kids have their own tastes when it comes to pizza, hubby prepared first their pizzas. Its got their favourite ingredient which is the pineapple, sliced Polish sausage, sliced bacon, drizzling of tomato sauce and topped with grated cheese.
Then hubby and mine have everything that we could manage to throw in as toppings. Its got Polish sausage, sliced bacon, mushrooms, olives, tomato sauce and topped with grated cheese.

Cupcakes

Since we didn't go out today because me and hubby were doing some work in the house, I let the kids do something to occupy themselves even just only for a short time. I had decided to make chocolate cupcake and involved the kids in the preparation. It's great fun for them. Good thing that I still had a box of chocolate cupcake mix left in the pantry when I checked it out. I did the mixing of all the ingredients and let them do the next step . David was really doing good even with constant supervision of Dorothy. They were busy filling the cupcake patties.
I did the preparation of the frosting and let them gently covered all the cooled cupcakes . The frosting comes together with the box and all I need was to add butter and milk accordingly.

Saging and ginamos

When Dhemz mentioned to me about "saging (banana) and ginamos (salted small white fish), I remembered my small bottle of "ginamos" given by my sister from her holiday in the Phils as a "pasalubong". It was left forgotten sitting in our fridge since then, that I didn't remember it anymore. When I checked it out, to my relief, it is still good and not past the expiry date (May 2010) yet, which I am really glad. I still can enjoy it. I bought a frozen "sab-a" banana from the Filipino shop to go with it, and just thawed and tossed it in the microwave. I had it for my afternoon snack.
Hubby calls 'guinamos" poisonous fish" because of its smell. .hehehe

Ensaymada

My craving has set in again and this time is ensaymada (a Filipino sweet bread made with butter topped with grated cheese, butter and sugar). And to satisfy my craving I bought a pack from one of the Filipino bakeries here. I am not a big fan of it but from time to time I miss savoring it with a cup of coffee especially in the afternoon.

Palitao, my snack yesterday

I've been dreaming about this kind of Filipino dessert for quite sometime now. My craving set in again while we were in the Filipino shop yesterday, I spotted a ready to eat Palitao (rice patties with coconut and sesame seeds) in the counter and still fresh from the making that I can feel it's still warm in my hands. Wasting no time, I bought it right away because I saw that it was the only one left in the counter. I really wanted to get two containers but when I asked the lady in the shop, she told me that it was the only one left. I was a bit lucky that I got into the shop before it will run out.

I really wanted to make palitao again. I did it once and it turned out good. I can even use fresh grated coconut on it but my problem is my time when I can get a chance just making palitao for myself. I would rather buy it than spending my precious time making it. I have some things that need to be done this time and that keeps me busy these days . Maybe the next time if my craving sets back again, I would be able to make my very own palitao for myself.
