Watery Wednesday

This is the Wishing Well Fountain for the NSW Society for Crippled Children outside the Palace Garden Gate of Royal Botanic Garden, designed by architect Professor Peter Spooner, 1963. The pool and fountainhead were by Public Works Department NSW in association with Phill & K.V. Taranto Architects, 1988.

David's Athletic Carnival

It seemed Mother Nature didn't care much at all what was going on in David's school last Thursday. It was raining on and off, breezy and very cold while the days before that day were beautiful. But despite the bad weather, the scheduled activity went on as planned. I was there cheering for the kids under an umbrella but with the wind that constantly blowing , my umbrella turned upside-down once (tsk tsk). Luckily during David's first race it wasn't raining but on the second one, it did. I was a bit worried watching the kids racing on a wet ground and just praying that everyone would be alright. David didn't make it to the top five on both of his two races but he said that he had fun racing with his friends. He doesn't like racing much but I was surprised when he was so interested to race on that day. I hope it will continue and will encourage him to work harder so that he will be in the District and Regional competitions like his big sister someday.

Camera Critters

This was during our visit to Sydney Royal Botanic Garden. We saw many eels in one of the garden ponds. I am not sure if this is a long finned eel.

Watery Wednesday

Photo was taken in Garie Beach, located in the Royal National Park, on the outskirts of Southern Sydney.
There are two theories of the origins of the name. Garie is an Aboriginal word meaning 'sleepy'. The name could also be a deviation of the name of a bushranger called Geaty, who camped here. It was a beautiful place. And still is.It has some of the best surfing waves in Sydney and is a very popular family beach destination.

Dorothy and her cat

I just want to share with you a photo that I took while Dorothy and her cat were at the backyard enjoying the sun after a freezing cold night. It was a glorious day with blue sky and a great time to stay outdoor. I was outside at that time too taking advantage of the beautiful day cleaning my garden.

Ruby Tuesday

Last Sunday afternoon, I went to the plant nursery to purchase a bale of pea straw mulch for my garden and on my way to the place where they display the bales, I saw these cute gnomes. So I thought to take a photo of them for my RT post. I forgot to check the price how much each cost but I really like to get a couple for my garden the next time I visit there.

The Moon

Last night, I got the chance to play my pocket size camera again snapping pictures of the moon. I was partly cloudy and cold when I went outside and was able to capture photos before the moon was completely covered with thick clouds. But I am going to share with you just only two photos since most of my photos are not worth posting for they are so blurry :(

Yerterday

Since it was hubby's day off, hubby and I went out to pick up his dental x-ray result while the kids were at school. He had an x-ray last Thursday to determine the condition of his teeth. After we picked up the result, we went straight to the Dental Clinic to book an appointment to see the dentist but when we arrived the Dental Clinic was temporarily closed for lunch and will open again an hour after. I suggested to hubby to have a coffee while waiting and after go to the mall to buy a new pair of working shoes for him which was fine with him. So we went to our favourite coffee shop in Blacktown and ordered cappuccino for me and flat white for hubby with muffins. Then, we went to the mall as planned to get a new pair of working shoes. By the time we finished, it was almost 1:30 pm, so we went back to the Dental Clinic which was already opened when we arrived. Hubby was able to book an appointment for next Monday to discuss further treatment of his teeth.

Baked pasta

It has been quite a while since we had baked pasta on the table. Dorothy likes it very much but David doesn't. He is not a pasta lover like his big sister. One night, I surprised them with a baked pasta for dinner. Obviously, David wasn't look happy when he saw the baked pasta on his plate with roasted mixed vegetables as a side dish. I told David to eat his baked pasta even a little to make mummy happy and he did but only for a few pieces and after eating he said that he had enough.
I used baked pasta sauce and just added premium beef mince, pasta and sprinkled it with grated cheese and baked for 20 minutes at 200'C .

Foot sprain

I could not exactly describe how I felt when I got Dorothy's call informing me that she sprained her foot. Memories from the time she fractured her left wrist came flooding into my head. The pain during the first few nights and the casting that she was having until the bone healed were too much to bear. Wasting no time, I went straight to pick her up and thankfully, it wasn't look that bad when I checked it out because it didn't show any swelling or bruising, it was just painful when she walked. I took her to the doctor straight away and the doctor explained that she somehow stretched the ligaments in her foot that hold the arch together and decided to wrap an elastic bandage around her foot to help support the arch when she walks, and told her to give her foot a rest as much as possible.
She was playing soccer with friends before the school day finish and suddenly she just felt the pain. She didn't trip over , step into a hole or something during the game. The pain was bad that she decided to disengaged herself from the game the moment she felt it.
The following day, it was such a great relief that Dorothy decided to go to school for her foot was feeling better and the pain wasn't bad any more, and to make her foot more comfortable she decided to wear thong slippers instead. I wrote an excuse letter to the uniform in-charge explaining the reason why Dorothy wasn't wearing complete uniform. I will take her back to the doctor tomorrow for a follow-up check up.

School excursion

Last Monday was David school excursion to Featherdale Wildlife Park. He was so excited and so did every one. It was an excursion for all K-Yr 2 students only to extend their knowledge and understanding of concepts taught during term 3 in two particular subjects.
I packed something for David to take with him for recess and lunch early that morning but unfortunately I forgot to put his sandwich in the bag somehow. I wasn't sure if that was due to my excitement too..hehehe. I only remembered it while we were already at the school car park and told David that I had to get back home to get his sandwich. He then told me not to worry about it because he had enough in his bag, I just packed him a pack of cookies, apple, juice and a bottle of water and besides he said that he wont' get hungry there for they will get busy viewing the native animals and participating at the workshop. However, I was a little bit worried of course and I wanted to get something in the school canteen but he didn't want either.
When I picked him up that afternoon after they arrived from the excursion he said to me that they all had a great time and he told me stories of some of the native animals they saw but the Tasmanian Devil fascinated him the most. After listening intently to his stories, I asked him how was he and he said "I was fine but I feel hungry now".

My flowers for this week's Today's Flowers are these Rhododendron that I saw inside the arc shaped glasshouse of the Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney during our visit last Sunday.

The other Thursday

It was Dorothy's Regional Athletic Carnival. She was selected again to represent the District to compete in the 800m for 13 yr old girl. Since her race was at 1:15 pm, I decided to go there after lunch because I had an appointment in the morning. When I arrived, I took some photos of the venue to share with you. This is the Sydney Athletic Center in Blacktown International Sportspark, formerly known as Blacktown Olympic Park, built as a major playing and training venue for Athletics, Baseball,and softball for the Sydney Olympic 2000 Games. This is located not far from where we live, just less than 10 minutes drive.


During Dorothy's race, a girl in front of her from other school suddenly fainted a few seconds from the starting line. She was being helped by the medical team and was taken to a room. Dorothy didn't able to make to the top 5 but she was really doing her best. We were so proud of her even if she didn't able to make it. Being in the district team twice is a great achievement already. She is our champion.

Camera Critters

I saw a small green grassshopper on one of my succulent plants the other day. I hurriedly went inside to grab my camera to try to capture some photos. I was glad that he was still on the same spot when I came back.

After the first photo was taken, he suddenly jumped to another succulent plant but I was still able to capture another photo of him while he was on there.
