Camera Critters

 The Willie Wagtail is the largest, and most well-known, of the Australian fantails. The plumage is black above with a white belly. The Willie Wagtail can be distinguished from other similar-sized black and white birds by its black throat and white eyebrows and whisker marks. The name wagtail stems from the constant sideways wagging of the tail. Young birds resemble the adults, but have paler, slightly rusty edges to the feathers of the wings.

 The other day we had visitors in the backyard perching on our mulberry tree. They are called Apostle Birds.

Apostle bird (Struthidea cinerea), also known as the Grey Jumper, is a quick-moving, gray or black bird about 13 inches (33 centimetres) long. It is a native to Australia where it roams woodlands, eating insects and seeds at, or near, ground level. Apostlebirds often travel ingroups of about 12; for this reason they were named after the Biblical apostles, the twelve chief followers of Jesus Christ.

 Last Sunday, I took my son to the playground in Nurragingy  Reserve and while  watching him, a rainbow lorikeet from nowhere just suddenly landed on the twig of the gum tree.

 This is a kookaburra that we saw in the Central Station, Sydney last Sunday while we were waiting for a train in going home.

I saw this crimson rosella  parrot near the train station in Lawson, Blue Mountains. We were waiting for the train at that time after visiting my sister. There were a few of them eating the seeds/flowers of the plants growing  along the railway track.

While we were at the car park of the shopping mall, we saw two rainbow lorikeets in the gum tree and suddenly moved to a trunk of the tree trying to get into the hole. I think they have babies or eggs in a hole.

Then one suddenly poked out its head looking at us.

The sound of these birds woke me up one morning. They were noisy and loud. I saw many of them flying when I gazed through the glass window but most of them didn't stop by in the tree of our next door neighbour to feed the fruits . There were only a few of them that stopped by in the tree, and I thought to take some photos. However I only managed to take two photos because some were hidden by the leaves and I couldn't see them. Here's my CC post. This is a galah that stopped by on a branch of the tree in our backyard the other afternoon. I actually saw two galahs but I didn't able to capture a photo of the other one because they both flew away after I took this picture.

While I took David to the playground at the Reserve close to where we live, there were two rainbow lorikeets suddenly popped out in the crack of the tree trunk. Before I saw them, I could hear bird's noises somewhere but could not exactly determine where those noises came from. I realised then the moment I saw those rainbow lorikeets that they were mum and dad who had babies inside the crack which they built as their nest. The crack wasn't high that I could even take a peek if I want to to satisfy my curiosity but I didn't even if the rainbow lorikeets had already flew away. But I was glad I was able to take a photo of them before they fly away.Interested to join or want to see more Critters from all around the world please click, here.

Backyard visitors

We were entertained again by these two colourful rainbow lorikeets. This pair often comes to our backyard perching on our pecan tree in most afternoon. We always notice their presence every time we are in the backyard because they are noisy which we don't mind at all because we always love seeing birds on our tree.

Magpie in our backyard

Every Spring season we always notice a magpie nesting in our big gum tree in the backyard, about 20 meters high above the ground. But it is only this spring season that we have seen a glimpse of her babies. We reckon she has three babies.
One morning we noticed that two of the babies were out from the nest. But where was the other one?

Well, when Mummy magpie came back to the nest, she was maybe wondering where was the other one and started to get worried.
Then guess what we we saw on the lower branch of the tree, yes, there he was, the other baby magpie perching and was making noises. Mummy magpie came down on the branch right away to where the baby magpie was perching, but I wasn't able to take photos because magpies can be aggressive during breeding season and can attack anyone who ventures close to their nest.

My camera critters post is this crimson rosella that we saw this afternoon perching on the wooden fence.

The Crimson Rosella (Platycercus elegans) is a parrot native to eastern and south eastern Australia which has been introduced to New Zealand and Norfolk Island. It is commonly found in, but not restricted to, mountain forests and gardens. (Wikipedia)

These were our backyard visitors this afternoon. They perched on our Pecan tree and were so sweet to each other. I think they are lovers...hehehe

We went to Nurragingy Reserve yesterday to feed the ducks and saw these cute fluffy ducklings swimming in the pond with their mummy duck and daddy duck.
