Camera Critters

Photos were taken last April 17, 2011 when I took my son to the Reserve close to where we live. While we were walking, we saw 4 galahs busily looking for food (seeds of grasses on the ground).

The Galah, Eolophus roseicapilla, also known as the Rose-breasted Cockatoo, Galah Cockatoo, Roseate Cockatoo or Pink and Grey, is one of the most common and widespread cockatoos, and it can be found in open country in almost all parts of mainland Australia. (source: wikipedia)

Tomorrow

I was planning to take the kids tomorrow somewhere because we haven't been out much during the school holiday for we were all sick with cough and cold, and also because of the wet weather. But hubby rang me at lunch time while he was at work today reminding me of the invitation of his friend at work tomorrow, ( his friend has invited us to a barbecue lunch which will be held at his residence.) I never thought about it actually for I was thinking it will be the next Sunday. Oh, well, I will just move the plan of taking the kids out the next Sunday and hope it will not be raining again tomorrow.

This morning

When David and I were about to go to school my car didn't start up. What a bad timing, because it was raining and absolutely soaking wet. It was raining since Monday and according to the weather forecast this weather will be until the weekend. I realised what was wrong with the car right away, the battery had gone flat because I didn't use the car for a few days and I forgot to completely turn it off by pressing a button (not sure of its name) near the key ignition. I wasn't really happy and I want to kick myself off for my carelessness. I just told David that we need to walk in going to school, he was a bit disappointed though, but there was nothing we can do as there was no other option. The school is not that far from where we live anyway, only about 2 blocks away. When we started walking, the rain started to dissipate. I had to wait for hubby to come home after his morning shift to do the charging of the battery which will take a while. I was glad I was able to go to the mall this morning by taking a bus to get a few things we need.

One afternoon

See who was our unexpected visitor...

Yes, it was a bunny rabbit. Isn't he cute? He belongs to our next door neighbour and visited our backyard. When David saw him, he gave a slice of carrot and the bunny ate it.

Our cat, Twilight just ignored his presence at the backyard but at first he was in a hunting mood but never tried to attack the bunny.

Today's Flowers

These are maybe the last flowers of my African Iris or Fortnight Lily and it will take awhile yet before I can see these beautiful flowers again. I haven't seen any bud coming anymore. It is starting to get colder now too for we are on our first month of Autumn.

Our family Easter celebration

I had been busy preparing for our family Easter celebration which was held at our house. Every year we celebrate Easter with our relatives from both sides and we always host the celebration which means, it is not only the Easter chocolate bunnies and eggs to prepare but also foods as well for our lunch. Because I wanted everything ready before the weekend came so I went to the shop last Thursday to buy all the things that we needed for the big day and glad I was able to get everything. The Easter chocolate bunnies and eggs were on sale which I was glad too.

And also the Easter egg hunt is not to be missed. The kids always love it and had a great time looking for the chocolate eggs that we hide around the backyard. The celebration was a success and we all had a great time.

Hope you all had a happy Easter!

During the party

I have mentioned in one of my previous posts about the other Saturday that we were invited by a friend for a party. It went well and we all had a great time. There were lots of foods because some of our friends brought also some foods with them. I brought prawn and sweet and sour fish. We went home at about half past 11 in the evening but Dorothy stayed for the night because she was invited by the daughter of my friend for a sleep over. I just picked her up in the afternoon of the following day.

Watery Wednesday

I took these photos during our visit to the Australian Museum last January 2011. This is the Archibald Fountain, one of my favourite fountains in Sydney.

The Archibald fountain was erected in Hyde Park North in 1932, a gift to the City of Sydney bequeathed in the will of J F Archibald. It is intended to commemorate the association between Australia and France in world War one, and is the work of French sculptor Francois Sicard. It depicts a bronze Apollo surrounded by other mythical figures. Horses’ heads, dolphins and tortoises exuberantly spray jets of water. (Tony Smith / City of Sydney)

Pirate David

There was a face painting at the entrance of the mall when we went there last Wednesday. It was a part of the fund raising by the WASH House and for 3$ you can get your face painted of the character of your choice from their available designs. It was a bit expensive though because we can get face painting here for free but it is a fund raising anyway and it was also a great feeling to be able to help even if it was just a small amount, it can make a difference already. The group aims to improve the quality of life of women by reducing the impact of poverty, social disadvantage and violence on their lives.

Today's Flowers

Here is my Today's Flowers post, fresh cut dahlias from my garden. I am glad even this time that we are on our first month of Autumn my dahlias still bloom and there are still many to come.

I am late with this post because I went to the doctor this morning for a check up and didn't get a chance to sit down in front of my computer when I came back.

Last Thursday

Me and my sister decided to meet up at the mall with our kids. It is school holiday this time so it is a great chance for the kids to see again their cousin, Madie. The mall is located about 20 minutes drive from where we live and about 30 minutes from where my sister lives. We just took the train since parking time in the mall is limited and besides it is always a joy for David riding a train even if it is just for a short time. We arrived earlier than expected while my sister arrived shortly after our arrival. We had a great time. I didn't do shopping, not on that day, just some window shopping only of bags, winter boots and coats while my sister bought some winter stuffs for her daughter. At lunch time we decided to have it at the food court and my sister and I decided to try a mix seafood lunch while the kids were having MacDonald mealsmy lunch, seafood, chips and vegetable salad

Our new cat

I am introducing the newest member of my family, Twilight. She is a black and very friendly cat. We are not sure how old is she but we know this cat for quite sometime. We officially adopted her about 3 weeks ago and named her, Twilight. Dorothy thought that the name suits her very well because of her big eyes. Actually, Twilight belonged to the previous tenants of the house next to us who we barely knew and rented the house just for a short time. When they moved, they didn't take the cat with them and the next people who rented the house adopted her like their own cat. But when they decided to move they didn't take Twilight with them. She was abandoned twice already, poor cat!
I just feel pity with the cat why those people can afford to abandon her like she is just nothing. The last couple who rented the house didn't even bother to inform us about her or even asking us if we are interested to adopt Twilight when the wife visited us on the last day of their stay to say good bye and thanking us.A week after the house was empty and quiet, Twilight suddenly appeared to our back door, begging for a home. We were so surprised to see her and wondering what had happen to her. The kids came out from the house to play with her. She was so playful then and seemed happy (The photos were taken on that day) . Later on that day we finally decided to adopt her instead of giving her to the RSPCA. Hubby has given the responsibility to Dorothy to take care of her everyday and Dorothy is so happy that she has her own cat now. We are planning to take her to the Vet to have her check up and buy her worming tablets.

Camera Critters

While I was walking in one of our local parks here late in the morning today after dropping Dorothy off at her tennis lesson, I heard an unfamiliar noise up in the tree. When I looked at up in the tree I was surprised to see three corella parrots, one was busy eating a piece of bread which I think he found in the park while the other two were just only onlookers. The tree which they were perching isn't that high and just beside the foot path. Since I have my camera with me, I took a couple of shot.

School holiday

Yesterday was the last day of the first term for this school year and the kids are having their 2 weeks holiday. They will come back to school on the 27th of this month. They are so excited. No wake up early and sleep early for the time being. I have planned a few activities for them to do to keep them busy, places to visit and maybe organise a sleep over and invite some of their friends to come over to our house. Today, a friend of mine is inviting us for a get together party and Dorothy is invited for a sleep over to their place too. David is not allowed yet for a sleep over for he is still little for that kind of thing and it is fine with him. There's actually nothing grand to celebrate this Saturday but just a simple get together. On Easter Sunday we are going to have a barbecue in our house and families in both sides are coming to celebrate Easter Sunday with us. I am going to be busy again but it is always a joy seeing our families and catching each other again.

Sky Watch Friday

Since I was not able to capture sky photos for my SWF post this week, I am posting pictures which were taken by yours truly a few years ago while we were in Goulburn, 195 km south-west of Sydney on the Hume Highway and 690 metres (2,264 ft) above sea-level. We were in Goulburn War Memorial in Rocky Hill when I captured these photos waiting for the sunset. But unfortunately it wasn't the best time to watch a magnificent sunset for it was an overcast sky and rain was threatening later in the afternoon. But even if that was a dull dreary day, there was still beauty out there to be appreciated. Do you agree?

Dorothy

I have mentioned in one of my previous posts that the other Sunday I took the kids for a walk to the convenience store near our place which has a horse Agistment across the road and we dropped by there on our way back home because Dorothy really wanted to pat one of the horses. The horse in the picture was the only one that came to meet us. Some were busy grazing the grass and some just stared us.

He was distracted by the sound of the plastic bag that I was carrying. I think he thought I had something for him to nibble.

The horse seemed so friendly though that he stayed with us until we started to walk going back home.
