Today

It was David's schedule to visit our Pediatrician before noon time today. I booked the appointment prior to the day. It was supposed to be the other weekend but it was canceled and moved to this weekend for some reason. But before we go, we picked up Dorothy from her Tennis Lesson and went straight to the Medical Center. It was a long long wait before we got in. The kids were already complaining and I started to get bored sitting and waiting there. After we finished our appointment we went straight to the shop to get fruits and vegetables for the week. I bought a box of ripe mangoes too for it's mango season here and the price is not that expensive. We also grabbed something for our lunch for it was already about 2:00 pm and we were already famished.

Spooky disco

It was my kids' first spooky disco last night and the first time the school organized such disco. It was a fund raising organized by the P and C Association in the school where they are and was held in the school hall. Dorothy and David were excited to go to the Disco, dressed up in spooky clothes and had fun with their friends. I bought them tickets prior to the day. The ticket include sausage sizzle, drink and an ice cream. In Australia, Halloween is not traditionally celebrated but some people celebrate it and its becoming more popular now especially to teens and kids. Since it was the first time the school organized such event and as what I had said we don't celebrate Halloween so obviously my kids didn't have an appropriate clothes to wear. I went to the shop the other day. It didn't take me long to find as some of the shops in the mall are selling it. I bought Dorothy a witch cloak with a matching witch hat and she fells in love with it right away.

And for David, I bought him a skeleton suit and he likes it so much.

Watery Wednesday

Here is a picture which I took during our visit to Taronga Zoo with some friends the other Sunday. This little pond is located near where the Reptile World is. There were some turtles we saw in the pond and we noticed some coins too. Some people threw coins into the pond. I don't know if its for donation and make a wish thing. But I didn't see any sign that says so.
Well, how many turtles did you see? Please visit Watery Wednesday for more watery sites all around the world.

Fishing Invitation

The other week, I received an invitation from the Council to participate for their upcoming event, Carp Fish Out which will be held this coming 13th of November at the nearby suburb from 8:am to 11:am. It is my first time to hear about this event and I am excited about it. We haven't tried fishing for carp and this would be a great chance for us to try our luck. It is free to registered participants only. However, hubby is working in most weekend (Sat), I am not sure if we can participate this event. We haven't decided yet and it's getting close. One thing too, the time conflicts Dorothy's tennis lesson.

Today's flowers

My Today's flowers post this week is my Dietes Grandiflora also known as African Iris or Fortnight Lily. I have a few of them in my front garden. This is one of the plants that was already in the garden when we bought the house. When me and hubby decided to do a make over of the garden few months after I arrived here, we decided to keep them because they have beautiful flowers, easy to grow, frost tolerant and requires only a little water once established.
Have a great week!

Fresh strawberries with whipped cream

I went out to our favourite shop last Saturday morning where we usually buy our vegetables and fruits. While looking around, I noticed that their strawberries were cheaper so I grabbed a couple of punnet. I had an idea just popped out from my mind the moment I saw it, fresh strawberries with whipped cream for a dessert after lunch would be nice. I had a small box of fresh cream already in the fridge which I bought last weekend. Yummy..

Camera Critters

Here are pictures of a bird that I took few weeks ago which visited our neighbor's tree. I was at the backyard watching the kids playing one late afternoon when suddenly we heard a bird noise which was not quite familiar. We followed to where the noise came from, searched and saw this bird feasting the fruits of the tree that belongs to our next door neighbor. I don't have any clue what kind of bird is this. That was our first time to see such kind. I searched in the internet and found out nothing except that this bird has a similarity with the cuckoo bird.

Dorothy's tennis lesson

Last week, I received a call from Dorothy's Tennis School that her long time tennis coach will be moved to another location starting this school term which is also not far from where we live, and wanted to know if we wanted to continue Dorothy's lesson with him and because I can't decide right away, I just replied to him that if there is still available place in the tennis venue where Dorothy is, I will grab it. He then informed me that he will put Dorothy in the 10:00-11:00 am class" with another coach, (last term her lesson started at 9:00 to 10:00 am). When I told Dorothy about her new tennis lesson time and the name of her new coach, she said that it's alright for she knows the new coach very well because sometimes he comes to help Dorothy's tennis group. He is a nice guy which I am glad. Last Saturday was their first day of the lesson for the 4th term of this year. The class was full with 4 girls and 2 boys, and one of the girls was Dorothy's friend who she befriended during the tennis clinic. Me and David accompanied Dorothy meeting also some of the mums and dads there. We stayed there until she finished her lesson.

Last Friday

This was during David's Taekwondo Class last Friday. It was the first day of his class for the 4th term of this year and part of it was the distribution of the Certificate of Attendance to those who participated in the grading session last school term. David waited for this moment to come and was so excited to receive his certificate as well as the yellow belt. Last school term, I didn't let him do the grading session because I thought he wasn't prepared to do it yet even if he was interested.

Watery Wednesday

This picture was taken when we visited a park close to where we live. The park has a big pond with different kinds of ducks but these white ducks (Pekin ducks) caught our attention the most.

It's Monday again and time for another Today's flowers post and today, I am going to share with you one of my favourite flowers in my garden. This is called pelargonium. It was given to me by a friend who moved to another place for good few years ago. Pelargonium is commonly known as scented geraniums or storksbills

Camera Critters

They are called grass parrots. I took these shots during our visit to a park close to where we live. We saw them feeding on the ground. Some flew away when they took notice of our presence. I think the darker in colour is a male and the other one is a female.

Visit to our GP again

I took Dorothy again to our GP right after her Tennis lesson today. It was her second check up since she had that hay fever symptoms. She was glad she’s able to go to school last Thurs and Friday but I had to go to school every noon time to put the eye drops in her eyes. The GP was so impressed of the improvement since the last time we visited. Although, she is still feeling a little itchy in the eyes but not really as bad as before, while the redness is completely gone. She still has to continue the prescribed medicines for couple of days though.

And thank you all for your well wishes and concerns. We appreciate it so much.

Dorothy is sick

I took Dorothy to the doctor today. She had been complaining about itchy, watery eyes and has a runny nose since yesterday. She told me that she wasn't able to sleep well last night because her eyes were bothering her. When I checked her eyes again this morning, they were looking a little red and swollen . So after I took David to school we went straight to our GP. There were about 2 patients ahead of us. After patiently waiting for about 30 minutes her name was finally called. The doctor found out that it's a combination of allergy and infection that causes it. With Spring is in the air, it's hay fever season too. Dorothy has the allergy symptoms and the doctor prescribed her an eye drops and a non drowsy relief allergy syrup .

Chocolate cake

We baked a chocolate cake last Saturday. It was my daughter who suggested the idea to bake a cake because we didn't go out on that day. She reminded me of the cake mix which I bought the other weekend. I never thought about it. And to make the preparation more quicker we decided to share the job, I let my daughter prepared the ingredients to be added to the cake mix while I busied myself preparing the baking pan (line it with a baking paper). I did the mixing part because she wasn't feel like to do it and popped it in the oven for 180 C for about an hour. When it was cooked, I let my daughter prepared the additional ingredients needed for the frosting and again I did the mixing part. I just let her spread the frosting all over the top of the cooled cake.

Laughing kookaburra

We saw this laughing kookaburra perching in a tree while we were at the venue of my son's Taekwondo grading session one weekend up in the Blue Mountains. We arrived early at the venue which gave us an opportunity to wander around for awhile before the session began.
The Laughing Kookaburra is not really laughing when it makes its familiar call. The cackle of the Laughing Kookaburra is actually a territorial call to warn other birds to stay away.

Helping an old lady

While walking going to the school one afternoon to pick up my kids I saw an old lady sagged on the foot path leading to her house and beside her was 2 big rubbish bins. HELP with a gesture of her hand to come to her was all I heard. I hurriedly went to check and asked if she was alright. Looking so tired and pale, she didn't bother to answer me so I checked and tried to piece out what was really happened. Then, the sight of blood on the foot path right beside her frightened me. My speculation confirmed that she had a fall and knocked the left side of her head, which was partly covered with blood. It had a deep cut and quite big. I wondered for how long she had been there waiting for someone to help her. I ran across the road to the people who were in the process of building a house and asked for help to ring the ambulance because I didn't have my mobile phone with me at that moment that I needed it the most. I went back to where the old lady was and glad I saw a car moving out from the driveway of the house next to the lady's house and tried to stop the driver who hurriedly scrambled out of her car upon knowing what was happening and decided to ring the old lady's daughter right away. Then a young guy from the construction site came over and rang the ambulance. He was really nice and even asked the people in the hospital what to do while waiting for the ambulance for the lady was losing a lot of blood. Per the hospital advice, we put a damp cloth to where the cut was and applied a little pressure on it and let the lady lay down with her head on two pillows which I took from her house to make her more comfortable. I noticed that black ants started to gather around her, maybe it was because of the smell of the blood that attracted them. I stayed there until the ambulance arrived after about 15 minutes from the time the young guy rang them and the old lady's son arrived thereafter. She was admitted in the hospital as far as I know and I hope she is doing fine now. I haven't had any news about her since then.

A creek

This was taken during our holiday to the North Coast of NSW. We were in Spooney beach swimming and had fun in the sand with friends when I spotted this Creek nearby. The water is so clear and flows towards the sea.
