Mushies

We never expected to see this type of mushrooms in the place where we visited one day. They were growing right in the landscaped ground underneath the old trees. Some were just sprouted from the ground and some just newly bloomed. Dorothy, my daughter, can't believe right away what we saw, and thought they were just artificial beautification thingo on the ground just to add life and color. But when I touched one with a stick to fill up our growing curiosity it was just when we began to realize that they were real up close and personal to our very own eyes.

As I searched in the internet more about this mushroom, I came to know that they are a poisonous type. Although generally considered poisonous , deaths are extremely rare, and it has been consumed as a food in parts of Europe, Asia, and North America after parboiling in plentiful water. These mushrooms are called Amanita muscaria

Wet weekend

It's another wet weekend, chilly and gloomy. Rains had been slow and steady soaking wet since the past few days. Our backyard's appearance is quite a mess with leaves, twigs and barks, you name it, it is all scattered in our backyard being completely ignored for days now and needs a good clean up . I am just waiting for the ground to dry enough habitable again by humans so we could start a good clean up. I need to reserve a good bucketful of energy for that big clean up day. But, well, at least not just yet very soon for the forecast is more rains are expected in the next day and it will take more days before the ground gets dry again because it's winter. So, it's another days of waiting and lazying for me....
With weather like this, I rather stay inside the house and laze myself curl up in a warm bed with an engrossing book to read. Lunch wasn't such a problem for I still got nerves to cook mung bean with spinach despite of my lazy bones. I thought to make something warm to eat. A good warmer soup so to speak and so the mung bean soup suddenly popped out in mind. Glad I still had enough ingredients available for the soup when I checked it out. Thus, making it a lot easier for me.

Some of my early winter bloomers

Few of my plants bloom this early winter. The flowers are not as many though yet they still add a colorful sight in the garden. It always cheers me up.

The grass parrots

They are called grass parrots, common throughout South-East Australia. They sometimes come to our front yard to have a feed in the grass like grass seeds or something. I was so quick to get this pic as they are wild and I had to zoom in my camera to get a closer pic.

Colours of Autumn

Autumn is one of my favourite time of the year. The time when the leaves change into bright red, purple and yellow colours. The scenery is just so awesome to look at and the weather is not too cold, not hot and humid either.
Winter officially started few days ago . The pictures were taken few days before winter . I got the chance to visit again my favorite spots every autumn season.I don't want that autumn just pass away without paying a visit to those places. Hence, the photo I used as my header was taken in one of my favourite spots. But was taken on the first day of winter last year.
To Rafter, this is also for you.. request granted! :)

Dinner

Our dinner, a serving of baked salmon fillet and vegetables salad (consist of, lettuce, cucumber, tomato and shredded carrots with a drizzle of oil)
Here's my simple and easy baked salmon recipe:
salmon fillets
salt to taste
pepper
lemon
olive oil to lightly drizzle
Procedure:
In an oven-proof dish, place the salmon fillets . Sprinkle with salt, pepper and squeeze the lemon over the top or slice the lemon and place it over the top. Lightly drizzle with olive oil and cover the baking dish with a foil. Wack it in the oven for about 15 to 20 minutes (depending on the fillets). Serve with vegetable salad, mashed potato or steam vegetables.
I normally don't put any herbs or something to add flavors for we just simply like it this way.

It's guava time!

We have 2 guava trees at our backyard and both are growing well that this time they have scores of fruit. Yes, we are flooded with ripe guavas. Some are big and some are teeny-weeny small. With the rains we had in the past days , it helped a lot of the fruits to ripen more quickly, crunchier and more juicy. Since we can't eat all of them, I am giving them to some friends in school and neighborhood. Give and eat more before the fruit flies and worms attack them shortly. This is the only way I could think of to get rid of them without wasting. I could not make them into something like guava jelly for I don't have much time to do it. Our dogs are eating them too and they take in-charge of the guavas within their reach which I am glad for I am sure many of them will be destined to the ground shortly. They like it as much as we do that every time we pick for our consumption and for friends they definitely beg to have some.I didn't plant it. It was just part of the package when we bought the house. I was very glad the first time I saw it. They were not that big yet at that time but even so it gave us so many fruits that hubby was able to make few bottles of guava jelly during our first year here .
