Ruby Tuesday

 Do you like chilli? Well, I do but not the real hot. I only love mild in sauces and in some recipes. How about you?

I actually don't know if this is hot or mild. I forgot to ask. This chilli plant was for sale at the Thursday Market here for 8$.

Today's Flowers

 I saw this pot of beautiful cyclamen at the entrance of the Chinese Garden in Sydney CBD.  I took the kids to the city yesterday and on our way home we dropped by at the entrance of the Garden to watch ducks and big koi swimming in the pond and spotted these beautiful flowers. I will post some photos about the trip in a separate post.

Almost over

The school holidays here are almost over. The kids will be back to school  tomorrow for the 2nd term. We didn't do much for the two weeks holiday except for a couple of trips to the Blue Mountains and managed to take a  trip to the city. But I am sure they enjoyed so much being at home with me. I always make sure they are busy and occupied everyday. We did kite flying too at the hill close to where we live and David enjoyed it so much. David wanted to do it again but because of the rain that we had in the past days, it stopped our plan. But I promised him that maybe in the next coming weekend we would be able to fly kite again if weather permits.

Camera Critters

I saw this crimson rosella  parrot near the train station in Lawson, Blue Mountains. We were waiting for the train at that time after visiting my sister. There were a few of them eating the seeds/flowers of the plants growing  along the railway track.

Walking

I was  glad I was able to do 1 hour walk this morning after I dropped Dorothy off to her tennis lesson. It has been about a week that I didn't able to take my walking exercise because of the wet weather.  I took a walk in the park close to where Dorothy's lesson is held. There were a few people taking a walk too even it was a little foggy  and still wet because of the whole day rain the other day. I love walking. It is an easy exercise and very relaxing.

Penne pasta with bacon and spinach

While surfing in the internet sometime last month, I found a recipe which is quick and easy to prepare. It is a light meal which will compliment anything. Since me and my daughter are a great pasta lovers ,and I had fresh tomatoes in the garden during that time, I decided to try it.
This is a great dish. I sprinkled  feta cheese and we loved it.
Recipe: Ingredients

• 1 (12 ounce) package penne pasta
• 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
• 6 slices bacon, chopped
• 2 tablespoons minced garlic
• 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
• 1 bunch fresh spinach, rinsed and torn into bite-size pieces

Directions:

1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta, and cook until tender, 8 to 10 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place bacon in the skillet, and cook until browned and crisp. Add garlic, and cook for about 1 minute. Stir in the tomatoes, and cook until heated through.
3. Place the spinach into a colander, and drain the hot pasta over it so it is wilted. Transfer to a large serving bowl, and toss with the remaining olive oil, and the bacon and tomato mixture.

Toadstool

We saw this toadstool when we were walking from the shop going to the tennis court in my sister's place at Blue Mountains. We were looking around hoping to see more but unfortunately we didn't see any more. This toadstool grows on an old tree stump near the school of my niece. .

Kite Flying

Last Tuesday was a breezy day and a great time to head off to the hill to fly a kite. David was so excited and took his favourite kite, a trapezoidal kite which we bought from the shop a few years ago. He haven't flown his kite in a long time. With my help to get up the kite in the air , he was able to fly his kite by himself and allow it to go higher.

He had such a blast and after he had enough flying his kite, he decided to go rolling and rolling down the hill..

In the backyard

This was about two months ago when I noticed a nest made of sticks in our small macadamia tree. The next day I found out that it belong to a spotted dove. The nest was not that high. I wondered if our cat had really noticed it because sometimes I saw her taking a nap under the tree where the nest was.Here is a photo of mummy and daddy bird, sharing incubation duties.

Well, during my next visit after a few weeks, I found out that the nest was empty except for broken egg shells.
