13 lucky fruits

Here are my 13 lucky fruits. I was able to prepare them before the New Year's Eve came. We've been busy lately because we had visitors coming from the North Coast who stayed overnight at home. But I was able to grab a chance to go to the fruit shop early on Saturday morning to buy the fruits. A friend came with me to the shop and bought also different kinds of fruits.
It is a tradition in the Philippines from the Chinese to offer 13 types of round fruits to bring good luck and prosperity for the New Year. I have grown up with this tradition to celebrate the arrival of New Year which I continue to do here since I arrived. I never miss preparing 13 lucky fruits every New Year's Eve.

Yesterday

I took David to the movie yesterday with the intention to watch Happy Feet 2 but when we arrived at Hoyts Cinema, I then discovered that we were late for the first session, while the second session was schedule at 3:00pm which was a bit late for me. I could not do anything but blamed myself for that because I didn't realise to check the schedule in the internet before we go. The only option that I had was to go home and come back the following day but David insisted just to watch another movie instead. I let her choose what he wanted to watch and he chose, The Adventure of Tintin which was schedule to be shown at 1:00pm. Since we still had enough time left after I bought the tickets, I took him to McDonald which is just downstairs to have lunch. We finished our lunch a few minutes before the movie started so we hurriedly went upstairs where Hoyts Cinema is located.

Watery Wednesday

This is called The rock, one of the attractions in Jamberoo Action Park, NSW, about 2 hours drive from Sydney. It is a 5 metre high launching pad into deep water. And that's my daughter having a go of the jump.

Christmas lolly run

This was last Thursday late in the afternoon when the Fire Brigade was on their annual Christmas lolly run around our suburb. The big red man was on the fire truck helping the firemen handing out lollies to the excited kids. My kids are always looking forward to this day every Christmas. They don't want to miss the day. David was so excited and had been waiting for them for almost an hour outside.

Today's Flowers

I have one pink rose in my garden and this time it's blooming. Yesterday I picked three of its beautiful flowers and put them in a vase inside the house. I just love the sweet smell of the flowers.

Outback Bay

This is a short video clip that I took during our visit to Jamberoo, NSW. Outback Bay is one of its big attractions there. It is a 2.5 megalitre wave pool where you can practice your body surfing or float on waves up 1.5m high. You can also just relax on the golden sand and deck chairs and soak up the sun. In this video you can see David enjoying the waves. I wasn't able to get video of Dorothy because every time the waves were on she prefered to be in the deeper part of the pool.

Dorothy's birthday

It was Dorothy's birthday last Saturday and we celebrated it at home. She turned 13 years old. My sister and family came over to join the celebration . We were so excited to see them again. The celebration was just simple . I prepared some food and bought her a birthday cake. We all had a great time.
And later in the afternoon we went to a friend's Christmas party.

This picture was taken during the community celebration dinner and concert held at the community hall of David's school on Thursday night. David's class performed an item on that night. They sang a Christmas song, Six White Boomers. David is in the front row first on the right.

Last Sunday

After doing two loads of washing of the covers of our lounge set and cushions last Sunday, I felt a bit tired and didn't have the mood to cook lunch. I thought at first just to make sandwiches because I bought sandwich ham the day before, but Dorothy told me that she was in McDonald kind of mood and so as David, so off we went to the mall to have lunch in MacDonald. I bought them double cheese burger with chips and drinks, and just a drink for me because I didn't feel that hungry at all. then after the lunch, i decided to take them to our new local library because it is just located nearby and it is open every Sunday from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. It was their first time to visit the new library and they were surprised how big it is compared to the old one. There are many computers added and more study rooms too for big ones as well as for the kids. We stayed there for over an hour and David was able to read 4 books there while Dorothy grabbed the chance to borrow her favourite books.

At Nurragingy Reserve

While we were taking a walk in Nurrangingy Reserve one weekend, a bird lying down on the ground caught our attention. We thought it was a dead bird so I slowly approached to where the bird was to check it out. When I was very close to it, I was surprised that he opened up his eyes, startled by my presence, and quickly flew away. Who would have thought it was alive and was just sun bathing enjoying the gorgeous weather. Just look at the picture.


And so here he was perching on a branch waiting for us to walk away and leave him alone. This bird is called noisy myna and very common here.

Elle

Hubby took our pet cockatiel to the Vet for a check up yesterday because she was looking sick. I just noticed it the other night before we went to bed that she could hardly move from one percher to the other inside her cage and kept on falling down. Then the following morning when I woke up, I checked her right away and saw her at the bottom of the cage still looking sick and while I was having my breakfast, I noticed that she didn't even bother to eat her seeds, which she normally does every time we are having our breakfast she eats too. I felt more worried and woke up hubby who was still asleep because he came home at about 2:00 am in the morning for I couldn't take Elle to the Vet myself because I have to take Dorothy to her tennis lesson.
The Vet said that she must have eaten something poisonous recently, probably a metal that made her sick. We have 2 metal clips inside her cage which we used for clipping cuttlefish shells for a quite a while now. We believe that she must be chewing those. We took the clips out and even moved away Christmas decorations which were close to her cage. She was given a special anti biotic and she is feeling a lot better now and will due for another check up tomorrow and the day after.

Camera Critters

While I took David to the playground at the Reserve close to where we live, there were two rainbow lorikeets suddenly popped out in the crack of the tree trunk. Before I saw them, I could hear bird's noises somewhere but could not exactly determine where those noises came from. I realised then the moment I saw those rainbow lorikeets that they were mum and dad who had babies inside the crack which they built as their nest. The crack wasn't high that I could even take a peek if I want to to satisfy my curiosity but I didn't even if the rainbow lorikeets had already flew away.
